Zao Onsen is a hot spring village founded approximately 1,900 years ago. It's said to have been discovered in 110 AD. Zao Onsen is one of the strongest highly acidic spring in Japan (pH1.8, sulfur spring). The water has a unique smell, you can't make any soap bubbles. It's also known as "The Fountain of Beauty" due to its reputation for healing the skin and blood vessels.
